Permafrost patch fixes crashes and building stutter, updates DLSS and FSR
Permafrost gets a new Early Access patch that fixes several crashes, removes stutter from building stairs and updates DLSS and FSR. Here is what it fixes, what is still pending, and which GPUs clear the minimum and the recommended.

Permafrost got an update on October 10 called “Crash Fixes & Co-op Improvements” that goes straight at the launch stability problems: it fixes several crashes, removes the stutter caused by stair building parts and updates DLSS and FSR. On October 10 we told you that two hotfixes disabled FSR on NVIDIA RTX 20, 30, 40 and 50 series cards to cut crashes; this patch is the next step. The game is still in Early Access on Steam and has 5,137 concurrent players right now.
What the patch fixes
According to SpaceRocket Games’ official notes, these are the changes that matter most if you play on PC:
- Crash fixes: after skipping the intro video, when joining while another player holds a ranged weapon, when using a held consumable, and when reloading a campfire on the world map.
- Building stutter: the stutters caused by stair building parts are fixed.
- DLSS and FSR updated. The notes do not say whether FSR is back on RTX cards, so do not assume it is.
- Co-op: the friends-only server list now prioritizes your friends’ worlds and shows more servers.
There are also fixes for quests getting stuck, building part placement and gamepad crafting tooltips. The team says it is still working on quest blockers and co-op issues, and the Known Issues list has workarounds. If the game still crashes for you, the earlier hotfixes ask you to check the fixes pinned in the Bug Reporting section and send your logs to the team.
Permafrost PC requirements
The Steam requirements did not change with the patch:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 590 8GB | RTX 3070 Ti 8GB or Radeon RX 6750 XT 12GB |
| CPU | Core i5 8600K or Ryzen 5 3500 | Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600X |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 30 GB | 30 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 (x64) | Windows 10 (x64) |
The minimum asks for DirectX 11 and the recommended for DirectX 12. Watch the memory: 16 GB of RAM is already the minimum. The game is Windows only.
Which GPUs make it
The GTX 1060 6GB clears the minimum but grades F against the recommended: it launches and will struggle. The GTX 1650 and Radeon RX 580 fall short of the minimum.
In the midrange, the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RTX 3070 clear the minimum and grade C against the recommended: playable, but tight. The RTX 2060, RX 7600 and Arc B580 land at D.
To meet the recommended you need something like the RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT, which grade B. The RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 reach A.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. A spec-based estimate puts the Deck at F, below the minimum. You can follow its status on Permafrost’s Steam Deck page.
Can your PC run Permafrost?
Here is how your rig grades against Permafrost and two other co-op survival games with building:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 22,430 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
| | 22,650 | 32 GB | 16 GB | ? |
| | 21,750 | 16 GB | 8 GB | ? |
