Can You Run It alternatives

Seven "can my PC run it?" checkers side by side: which ones detect your rig on their own, which ones ask you to download something, how many games they cover and what they give you back.

Short answer: if you do not want to install anything, there are four browser options: CanIRun.gg, PC Game Check, Will it run? and technical.city. If you want FPS numbers, look at technical.city or PCGameBenchmark.

Data checked on October 1, 2026 on each tool's website. Where it says "site claim", the number is the one each site publishes.

What we could verify for each one. "Not found" means we did not see it on their site, not that it is impossible.

One by one

What each tool does and what it is good at.

canirun.gg

CanIRun.gg

This is us, so read it with that in mind. It reads your graphics card through WebGL and your cores and RAM through browser APIs, then grades every game in the catalog from S to F against its recommended requirements.

What it does well

  • Nothing to install, on Mac and Linux too
  • Desktop, laptop and handheld modes
  • A Steam Deck page per game, with ProtonDB

What we do not do: we do not estimate FPS, the browser does not reveal your exact CPU model (only the core count) and Chrome reports 8 GB of RAM at most, so you may need to fix it by hand.

systemrequirementslab.com

Can You Run It (System Requirements Lab)

The original. It has answered "can I run it" since the mid 2000s, and publishers and hardware makers license its technology. You download a small app, it scans your system and compares each component with the game's minimum and recommended requirements.

What it does well

  • The largest requirements database on this list
  • Checks more than the GPU: OS, DirectX, disk space
  • Shows what share of recent tests passed for each game

Its page says "Works on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11". There is no way to run the test from a phone.

willitrun.cc

Will it run? (willitrun.cc)

A small open-source project by Maaaxgz. You type your parts, search for the game and the requirements arrive live from the RAWG API. It uses normalized PassMark scores.

What it does well

  • Open source on GitHub
  • Treats VRAM as a hard limit and penalizes CPU bottlenecks
  • Simple interface, no accounts, no ads

RAWG does not have requirements for every game, and the site tells you when they are missing.

pcgamecheck.com

PC Game Check

A no-download browser checker from Paracausality Systems (Italy). It auto-fills your GPU and gives a verdict with estimated FPS.

What it does well

  • No download, no sign-up
  • FPS estimates
  • Many tools: best GPU per game, comparisons, bottleneck checks

It explains its sources and method on a dedicated section.

can-i-run-it.com

can-i-run-it.com

It mixes both schools: pick your parts from menus without installing anything, or use its desktop detector or browser extension to read them for you.

What it does well

  • Eight languages, including Spanish and Portuguese
  • Estimated FPS and quality level
  • Shows how many checks it has logged

Game and check counts are the ones the site publishes.

technical.city

technical.city

A hardware database with a per-game FPS calculator. It labels whether each number comes from a test or an estimate.

What it does well

  • FPS at four resolutions
  • Separates measured data from estimates
  • Seventeen languages and very complete GPU comparisons

If FPS numbers are what you want, it is the strongest option on this list.

pcgamebenchmark.com

PCGameBenchmark

Part of Network N, the PCGamesN network. Its strength is real FPS data sent by users of its FPS Monitor app.

What it does well

  • FPS measured on real rigs
  • Upgrade ideas for your PC
  • A ranking for your rig

Automatic detection means downloading and opening a small file; without it, you pick your parts by hand.

Which one to pick

  • You do not want to install anything CanIRun.gg, PC Game Check, Will it run? or technical.city. All four work in the browser.

  • You play on Steam Deck, Mac or Linux CanIRun.gg: it has a Steam Deck page per game and Mac and Linux lists.
  • You want actual FPS numbers technical.city (FPS at four resolutions) or PCGameBenchmark (real user FPS).
  • You want a full Windows system check Can You Run It: its app checks the OS, DirectX and disk on top of the GPU.

  • You need another language technical.city has 17 and can-i-run-it.com has 8.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Can You Run It?

It depends on what bugs you. If you do not want to download anything, CanIRun.gg, PC Game Check, Will it run? and technical.city work in the browser. For FPS numbers, technical.city and PCGameBenchmark are the most complete. For a grade across the whole catalog, with Steam Deck, Mac and Linux, CanIRun.gg.

Is there a "Can You Run It" with no download?

Yes. CanIRun.gg reads your GPU, CPU cores and RAM in the browser. PC Game Check detects the GPU in the browser and asks for the rest. Will it run? and technical.city ask you to type or pick your parts. None of the four installs anything.

Why does Can You Run It ask me to download an app?

A browser cannot read every component of a computer. The System Requirements Lab app runs a full system scan, including the operating system and DirectX. Web tools read the GPU through WebGL and the cores and RAM through browser APIs, and let you fill in the rest by hand.

How accurate is detection in the browser?

Good for the GPU: WebGL returns your graphics card model. For the CPU only the core count is available, and Chrome reports 8 GB of RAM at most. That is why CanIRun.gg lets you correct any part from a menu.

Which one works for Steam Deck?

Of the seven, CanIRun.gg is the only one where we found a Steam Deck page per game, with Valve's official status and the ProtonDB rating.

Can I check from my phone?

Yes, but you have to pick your PC parts by hand, because the phone would detect its own hardware. Tools with manual menus work from any device. The Can You Run It app, on the other hand, needs a Windows PC.

Are these tools free?

Yes, all seven are free to use. Most are paid for by ads. CanIRun.gg shows no ads and has some affiliate links.
