04Can I run it? How the check works
CanIRun.gg answers "can I run it?" without making you install anything. The whole check happens on this page:
-
Detect
Your browser already knows your graphics card: we read it through WebGL, along with your CPU threads and a rough RAM figure. If the browser hides something, pick your GPU, CPU or RAM from the lists.
-
Score
Your GPU is matched to a performance score from our database of 182 GPUs. It is the same scale for every game.
-
Compare
Each game's minimum and recommended specs come from its Steam store page. We divide your GPU score by the recommended one.
-
Grade
S is twice the recommended or more, A is 1.3 times and B means you meet it. C reaches 75%, D reaches 50% and F is under half. RAM can pull the grade down, never up.
It's a spec comparison, not a benchmark of your exact PC: drivers, resolution and settings change the real frame rate. Your specs stay on your device; the only server call looks up your GPU's score. The full method

Frequently asked questions
Can I run it without downloading anything?
Yes. CanIRun.gg works entirely in the browser: no app, no extension and no account. Your browser reports the GPU through WebGL and you fill in anything it hides. Whatever you pick is saved only on your device.
How accurate is it?
The GPU is the most reliable part: WebGL usually gives the exact model, and we compare its score with the game's published requirements. For the CPU we only see the core count, and browsers report 8 GB of RAM at most, so set those by hand if they look wrong. The grade tells you whether your PC meets the specs, not an exact frame rate: drivers, resolution and settings still matter.
Does it work for laptops, Steam Deck and Mac?
Yes. Laptop GPUs are detected just like desktop ones, and we keep spec sheets for gaming laptops and handhelds such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally and Legion Go. Every game has a Steam Deck page with Valve's rating and ProtonDB, and Apple GPUs (M1 to M4) are in the database, with a list of games that run natively on Mac.
Is CanIRun.gg the same as Can You Run It?
No. Can You Run It is System Requirements Lab's tool and asks you to install a small detection app on Windows or macOS. CanIRun.gg is an independent project that runs the check in the browser, also works from a phone by picking your PC's parts, and gives a grade from S to F instead of a pass or fail per component.
Where do the requirements come from?
From each game's Steam store page. We keep the minimum and recommended GPU, CPU, RAM and storage for 13,000+ games, and put every GPU on one performance scale, so a GTX 1060 means the same thing in every game.
Is it free?
Yes. There are no ads, accounts or paid tiers. Some upgrade suggestions link to Amazon as an affiliate, which supports the site at no extra cost to you.
