Athanasia PC requirements: a GTX 660 minimum ahead of its October 19 Early Access
Athanasia, the horror FPS inspired by System Shock and Dino Crisis, hits Steam Early Access on October 19. Here are its PC requirements, which GPUs clear them and what to expect on Steam Deck.
In this guide 4
Athanasia, the horror FPS from Momentum Games inspired by classics like System Shock and Dino Crisis, opens its Steam Early Access on October 19. You play as Carmen Flores, a researcher sent to a facility in South America overrun by prehistoric predators, and the good news for PC players is that it asks for very little: a GTX 660 minimum and a GTX 750 recommended. If your rig has a few years on it, you are not left out this time.
Since this is Early Access, the studio says it will be watching its Steam discussion board, Discord server and social media for feedback and bug reports.
Athanasia PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam store page, as written:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or equivalent | Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 or equivalent |
| CPU | 2.4 GHz dual core or higher | 2.4 GHz dual core or higher |
| RAM | 4 MB | 8 MB |
| Storage | 2 GB | 2 GB |
| DirectX | 9.0 | 11 |
| OS | Windows 7+ | Windows 10 |
Two things to keep in mind:
- The RAM line is a typo on the store page: it literally says 4 MB and 8 MB, which is clearly a mistake, so do not take it at face value. canirun grades assume 16 GB of RAM.
- Windows 7 is not really an option: the store page itself notes that starting January 1, 2024, the Steam client only supports Windows 10 and later.
For now the game is Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version listed.
Which GPU do you need?
Hardly anything. Every popular card on our list clears both the minimum and the recommended, and every one grades S, Overkill, measured against the recommended requirement. That includes cards several generations old like the GTX 1650, the GTX 1060 6GB and the RX 580.
The CPU is not a concern either: it asks for a 2.4 GHz dual core for both minimum and recommended, and the install takes just 2 GB. If you are after more games that run on modest hardware, check our list of games for low-end PCs.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. Based on a canirun estimate built only from the specs, the Deck clears the minimum and grades A against the recommended. That is an estimate, not a test: once Valve publishes its rating, you will see it on the Athanasia Steam Deck page.
