Athanasia delayed: Steam has not approved its Early Access launch yet
Athanasia was due in Early Access on October 19, but Steam has not approved the build yet. Here is what Momentum Games said, when it might launch and which GPUs clear its PC requirements.
In this guide 4
If you looked for Athanasia on Steam yesterday and could not play it, it is not your account: the Early Access launch planned for October 19 is on hold because Steam has not approved the build yet. Momentum Games explained the situation the same day and posted a second update today: they think the review will clear within the next 1-2 days, but the delay could push into next week. Until Steam responds, there is no new date.
What happened to the launch
On October 18 we told you that Athanasia asked for a GTX 660 minimum and was entering Early Access on October 19. It did not launch that day, and according to the studio the holdup is not on their end:
- Steam typically asks for a build 3-5 business days ahead. Momentum Games says it submitted its release candidate two weeks ago and has not been green lit.
- The likely cause, according to the studio, is a higher than normal volume of review requests around Next Fest.
- They do not expect the build to fail review. If it did, they would need time to adjust it and send it back to Steam.
- In the meantime, they say they are working through a backlog of small improvements and new content, and will post a final update once they know their next steps.
If it is not on your radar yet: it is a first-person horror shooter inspired by Dino Crisis and System Shock, where you play researcher Carmen Flores in an abandoned facility in South America, as Rock, Paper, Shotgun describes it.
Athanasia PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam page. There is only a Windows version:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or equivalent | Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 or equivalent |
| CPU | 2.4 GHz dual core or higher | 2.4 GHz dual core or higher |
| RAM | 4 MB (as listed on Steam) | 8 MB (as listed on Steam) |
| Storage | 2 GB | 2 GB |
| OS | Windows 7 or later | Windows 10 |
The memory is listed in MB on the store page, an obvious error the studio has not fixed yet, so there is no official figure in GB. The minimum asks for DirectX 9.0 and the recommended for DirectX 11.
Which GPUs run it
These are some of the lightest requirements you will see this year. Every popular GPU we checked clears both the minimum and the recommended, and grades S measured against the recommended: from a GTX 1650 or an RX 580 up to a GTX 1060 6GB or an RTX 3050. If your PC is a few years old, this is not the game to worry about.
On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified it yet. Our estimate based only on the specs gives it an A, but that is just an estimate: see the details on the Athanasia Steam Deck page.
Can your PC run Athanasia?
Here is how your PC grades against Athanasia and two other dinosaur games:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 2,900 | 8 MB | 4 MB | ? |
| | 12,550 | 16 GB | 8 GB | ? |
| | 22,650 | 32 GB | 16 GB | ? |
Once Steam approves the launch, the game page shows the exact grade for your GPU.
