Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is out on PC: requirements and which GPUs run it
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is out on Steam and asks for Windows 11 and 16 GB of RAM even at minimum, with a GTX 1650 and an RTX 3060. Here is which GPUs run it, the Steam Deck outlook and the issue with monitors above 120 Hz.
In this guide 5
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launched on Steam on October 14. It is Konami’s new 2D Castlevania, developed together with Evil Empire and Motion Twin. Rose Belmont, Trevor’s daughter, fights through a burning Paris in 1499. It costs $29.99 and has 10,384 concurrent players on Steam right now. According to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, it is the first entry in the series in over a decade, and while it moves a bit like Dead Cells, it is not a roguelike. Before you buy it for PC, check two things: it asks for Windows 11 and 16 GB of RAM even at minimum.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce GTX 1650 | GeForce RTX 3060 |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 | Intel Core i5-10400 |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| OS | Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
Both tiers list DirectX 11. There is no Mac or Linux version: on Steam the game is Windows only.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular GPU we checked clears the minimum, so the real question is how much headroom you have. canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM:
- A and S grades: the RTX 4070, RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT grade A, and the RTX 5080 grades S. They sit well above the recommended spec.
- B grade: the RTX 3060 is the recommended card itself. The RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 and RTX 3070 meet it too.
- C grade: the RTX 2060, RX 6600 XT, RX 7600 and Arc B580 land between minimum and recommended. Expect it to be tight.
- D grade: the GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660 Super, RTX 3050 and RX 580 clear the minimum but will struggle.
- F grade: the GTX 1650 is exactly the minimum GPU. It clears the minimum, but it sits far below the recommended spec and will struggle.
Memory matters as much as the GPU here: with less than 16 GB of RAM you fall below the minimum even if your card has room to spare.
Windows 11 and monitors above 120 Hz
Both Steam tiers ask for Windows 11. If you are still on an older version, keep that in mind before buying.
The other catch is your display. PC Gamer reports that the game first booted to a black screen, and after some troubleshooting they found it would not display on a monitor set higher than 120 Hz. Lowering the refresh rate solved it easily. They also saw the framerate drop sharply in every cutscene with the in-game 120 fps cap on. If you have a fast monitor and get a black screen at launch, try that first.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. canirun’s spec-based estimate puts the Deck at an F, below the minimum. That is an estimate from the specs, not a real test: the Steam Deck page for the game will show Valve’s rating once it has one.
Can your PC run Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse?
Here is how your PC grades against the recommended spec:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 17,050 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
