Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is part of 2K’s Autumn Sale on Steam, which went live today, October 1, at 50% off. The offer is digital only and ends October 8, 2026. If it has been on your wishlist since its February 10, 2025 launch, now is a good time to check whether your PC can handle it. The sale also lands right after the Update 1.5.0 hotfix, released September 30, which focused on stability and performance.
Civilization VII PC requirements
These are the Windows requirements listed on the Steam store page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 1050, RX 460 or Arc A380 | RTX 2060, RX 6600 or Arc A750 |
| CPU | Core i5-4690, Core i3-10100 or Ryzen 3 1200 | Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600X |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 20 GB | 20 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
Both tiers require DirectX 12 and a 64-bit processor and operating system.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular GPU on our list clears the minimum. What changes is how much headroom you have against the recommended spec. canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM:
- GTX 1650: clears the minimum and grades D against the recommended. It runs, but it will struggle. The GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 land in the same spot.
- RTX 3050: grades C, between minimum and recommended. It is tight.
- RTX 2060: this is the recommended card itself, and it grades B: solid.
- RTX 4070: grades A, comfortably above the recommended.
If your card sits near the line, see what else it runs: GTX 1650, RTX 2060 or RTX 4070.
The September 30 hotfix brings stability and crash fixes, most notably in the late-game Modern Age. It also fixes lag that could occur when using mouse and keyboard at the same time. If you plan to stick around, Firaxis has announced Arc of Tomorrow, a free update coming in 2027 that adds a fourth Age, the Atomic Age. It has also announced Earthrise, the game’s first paid expansion.
Mac, Linux and Steam Deck
Civilization VII also ships on Mac and Linux, each with its own requirements:
- Mac: requires an Apple processor and macOS Sequoia. The minimum is an 8-core M1 with 8 GB of RAM; the recommended is a 10-core M2 Pro with 16 GB. It needs 25 GB of storage.
- Linux: the minimum asks for Ubuntu 22.04 with a GTX 1060 or RX 580, and the recommended asks for Ubuntu 24.04 with an RTX 2070 or RX 6700. It needs 25 GB of storage. The GPU models listed are not the same as on Windows.
Steam Deck gets two different readings. Valve rates it Verified. Our check compares the Deck’s power against the Windows requirements, and by that measure it falls below the minimum and grades F against the recommended. That F does not mean the game fails to launch, since Valve verified it on the device. It does mean there is very little headroom compared to what the PC version asks for. The details are on the Civilization VII Steam Deck page.
