CONTROL Resonant patch 1.4.0 targets PC performance: requirements and GPUs that pass

CONTROL Resonant Game Update 1.4.0 brings performance optimizations aimed at PC minimum and recommended specs. Here are the requirements, which GPUs clear the minimum and the recommended, and how it fares on Steam Deck.

Remedy released Game Update 1.4.0 for CONTROL Resonant today, October 1, just days after the game’s September 24 launch. The headline feature is New Game++, which lets you play an infinite number of runs and which Remedy had promised for October. If you play on PC, though, the line that matters most is a different one: “Several specific performance optimizations, mainly targeting PC minimum and recommended specs.” This is not a niche release, either. It made Steam’s global top sellers for the week of September 22 and has 10,186 concurrent players as of this writing.

CONTROL Resonant PC requirements

The patch notes do not mention any change to the requirements. These are the ones listed on Steam:

MinimumRecommended
GPUGeForce GTX 1070, Radeon RX 5600 XT or Intel Arc A580GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc B580
CPUIntel i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
RAM16 GB16 GB
Storage120 GB on SSD (required)120 GB on SSD (required)
OSWindows 10 / 11 64-bitWindows 10 / 11 64-bit

Two details are worth checking before you buy. An SSD is required even at the minimum. And RAM is the same at both tiers: 16 GB for the minimum and 16 GB for the recommended. There is no Mac or Linux version.

What 1.4.0 changes on PC

On top of the optimizations, the patch includes several technical fixes you will notice while playing:

  • Frame generation: you can now use V-Sync together with DLSS Frame Generation. Motion blur shutter speed now scales with the DLSS/FSR frame generation multiplier.
  • Ray tracing: fixed a crash that happened when toggling between RT modes.
  • Pop-in: Remedy adjusted draw distances, tweaked streaming volumes and improved many LODs to cut down on objects popping into view.
  • HDR: fixed over-saturated highlights in the AgX tonemapper, plus the artifacts and pixelation most visible with HDR on.
  • Frame rate limiter: it no longer turns itself off when you change other graphics options.
  • Artist Resonant fight: fixed a visual effects issue that could drop the framerate during her special attack.

If you have an AMD card, Remedy also points to new optional AMD drivers. According to the studio, they improve performance and fix several game crashes.

Which GPUs run it, and what about Steam Deck

On canirun, grades are measured against the recommended requirement, assuming 16 GB of RAM:

  • RTX 3060 Ti: this is the card Remedy lists as recommended. It meets that bar and grades B (Solid). See what else the RTX 3060 Ti runs.
  • RTX 4060: clears the minimum but falls short of the recommended, so it grades C (Tight). That is exactly the kind of setup this patch’s optimizations are aimed at. Browse games for the RTX 4060.
  • RTX 3050: also clears the minimum, but grades D (Struggles). It will run, with little headroom.
  • GTX 1660 Super: falls below the minimum, so expect a rough time. Check which games suit the GTX 1660 Super better.

On Steam Deck the picture is simple. Valve rates the game Unsupported, and on canirun it does not clear the minimum, grading F. The details are on the game’s Steam Deck page.
