DESOLUS is out: PC and Mac requirements, and which GPUs run it

DESOLUS launched today, October 15, on Steam for Windows and macOS. It’s a first person puzzle game from Mark J. Mayers. You explore a Gothic city split between past and future and manipulate black holes to travel through time and put its architecture back together, with Escher-like puzzles. It launches with a 10% introductory discount: 17,99€ instead of 19,99€ until October 29. Before you buy, know this: the game takes only 4 GB of storage, but it asks for a mid-range GPU and 12 GB of RAM at minimum.

These are the official requirements from the Steam page:

Both tiers require DirectX 11. If your PC has less than 12 GB of RAM, you’re below the minimum even if your graphics card is fast enough.

Which GPUs run it

Here is how popular graphics cards land in canirun’s table. Grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM:

• Clear the recommended: the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 grade B (Solid). The RTX 4070 and RX 9070 XT grade A (Smooth), and the RTX 5080 reaches S.
• Clear the minimum, not the recommended: the RTX 2060, Arc B580 and RX 6600 XT grade C (Tight). The RX 6600 XT is named in Steam’s recommended spec, but on our scale it falls short of the score we set for that tier, so expect to play close to the edge.
• Fall below the minimum: the GTX 1660 Super, RTX 3050, GTX 1060 6GB, RX 580 and GTX 1650 don’t reach what the game asks for.

What about Mac, Linux and Steam Deck?

On Mac it asks for more RAM than on Windows: 16 GB even at minimum, on macOS 12 Monterey or later.

• Minimum: an Apple M1 Max or M2 Pro. On Intel Macs, a 6-core Core i7 with a Radeon Pro 5700 or Vega 56.
• Recommended: an Apple M2 Max or M4 Pro with the 20-core GPU. On Intel Macs, an 8-core Core i7 with a Radeon Pro 5700 XT or W5700X.

Steam does not list a native Linux version. Valve hasn’t rated the game for Steam Deck yet. Based on specs alone, our estimate is an F, below the minimum, but treat that as a spec-based estimate until Valve tests it. You can follow it on its Steam Deck page.
