Halloween: The Game patch 1.1.1 fixes PC crashes with DLSS and FSR frame generation
Halloween: The Game patch 1.1.1 fixes crashes when using DLSS and FSR frame generation, plus crashes when grabbing. Here is what it fixes, what to do, the PC requirements and which GPUs clear them.
In this guide 5
On October 16 IllFonic released patch 1.1.1 for Halloween: The Game, and for PC players it carries one fix that matters: it stops the crashes that happened when using DLSS and FSR frame generation. On October 7 we told you that patch 1.1.0 had added DLSS-G and shader precompiling at startup. If you turned on frame generation and the game kept crashing, this is the patch you were waiting for.
What patch 1.1.1 fixes
The official notes cover crashes only, across Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. Setting aside the Xbox-specific fixes (Quick Resume and a shader crash in Performance Mode), here is what it brings:
- Frame generation: fixes crashes caused when using DLSS and FSR frame generation. This is the change PC players will care about most.
- Grabs: fixes a crash that could occur when grabbing.
- Interactions: fixes crashes caused by certain gameplay interactions.
- Other: various additional crash fixes, with no further detail.
The notes do not mention performance gains or requirement changes: this is a stability update. The next big drop is the Halloween content update on October 27, with a new free map for everyone who bought the game, The Tower Farm Map, inspired by Halloween 5, plus new versions of Michael to buy.
What to do if the game was crashing
The official fix is the patch itself: version 1.1.1 is live, so make sure the game is updated on Steam before you try frame generation again. The notes give no extra steps or recommended settings. If the crashes continue after updating, there is no other official fix yet.
Halloween: The Game PC requirements
The patch does not touch the requirements. These are the ones on the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 1660, RX 590 or Arc A770 or better (1080p at 30 fps) | RTX 3000 series or RX 7000 series (4K at 30 fps) |
| CPU | Intel LGA 1200 or newer, AMD AM4 or newer (Zen 2 or newer) | Intel LGA 1700 or newer, AMD AM5 or newer |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 45 GB, SSD or NVMe required | 45 GB, SSD or NVMe required |
| OS | Windows 11 64-bit, DirectX 12 | Windows 11 64-bit, DirectX 12 |
Two things to watch: an SSD is required even at minimum, and the recommended spec asks for 32 GB of RAM, while our grades assume 16 GB.
Which GPUs run it
By our data, the GTX 1660 Super clears the minimum but not the recommended, and grades C (Tight) against the recommended requirement. With an RTX 3060 or an RX 7600 you clear the recommended and the grade rises to B (Solid). The GTX 1650, on the other hand, falls below the minimum.
On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified the game (Steam lists it as Unsupported). Based on specs, our estimate gives it an F against the recommended requirement, but that is only a spec-based estimate, not a test. The details are on the game’s Steam Deck page.
Can your PC run Halloween: The Game?
Here is how your PC grades against the game’s requirements:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 12,750 | 32 GB | 16 GB | ? |
On the full game page you can see your grade for your GPU and RAM, and which upgrade helps most if you fall short.
