The Sift: Minecraft’s First New Dimension in 14 Years Debuts Today in Dungeons II

Minecraft is getting a fourth dimension. Mojang revealed The Sift at Minecraft Live on September 26, and it is the first new dimension in more than 14 years, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The twist is where it shows up first: not in Minecraft itself, but in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches today, September 29. Java and Bedrock get it in 2027.

What we know about The Sift

  • Two biomes revealed so far: the Meadows and the Carapace. Mojang is keeping the rest secret.
  • New mobs, both companions and threats, all of them unique to the dimension.
  • Hazardous new blocks that change how you explore, plus new rules to learn as the environment shifts around you.
  • A different look: the footage shown so far leans on pink-tinted blocks and blue-green plants, unlike anything in the other three dimensions.

In Dungeons II, The Sift is part of the opening story: strange events start disrupting the Overworld and you discover the new dimension along with its enemies and hazards.
