Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is available on Steam as of today, October 20, and it launches with a 10% discount: it costs $29.69 instead of the $32.99 Magic Fuel Games announced as its launch price. For now it is Windows only. According to the launch announcement, Mac support will follow in a future patch. At the time of writing, it has 392 concurrent players on Steam.
On October 19 we went over the requirements and the GPUs you need. Now that the game is in the store, the Steam page lists the same specs the studio shared in its last devlog. Here is the quick recap to help you decide whether to buy it at the discount.
Star Trek: Outposts Unknown PC requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 1660 (6 GB) or RX 5600 XT (8 GB) | RTX 3060 or RX 5700 XT |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8500 | Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Core i5-14600K |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 version 21H1, 64-bit | 64-bit operating system |
In the devlog, Magic Fuel Games explains that the minimum gets you the game at reduced visual fidelity. The recommended spec is for playing it without compromising its look.
Which GPUs run it
canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM:
- Clear the recommended: the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RTX 3070 grade B (solid). The RTX 4070, RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT grade A (smooth).
- Clear the minimum but not the recommended: the RTX 2060, RX 7600 and Arc B580 grade C (tight). The GTX 1660 Super and RTX 3050 clear the minimum, but at grade D they will struggle.
- Fall short of the minimum: GTX 1060 6GB, RX 580 and GTX 1650.
The GPU grade leaves out two things. First, RAM: the minimum already asks for 16 GB, so with 8 GB you fall short even if your graphics card passes. Second, the processor: the recommended spec jumps to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Core i5-14600K, well above the minimum’s Ryzen 5 2600. Check your CPU separately.
What about Mac or Steam Deck?
You cannot play it on Mac yet: the studio confirms support will arrive in a future patch. In the meantime, you can see which games run on Mac today.
Valve has not verified the game for Steam Deck yet. Our spec-based estimate gives it an F, below the minimum. That is only an estimate from the hardware, not a test. The details are on the game’s Steam Deck page.
