The Outlast Trials at $3.99: PC requirements and which GPUs run it

The Outlast Trials is 90% off on Steam at $3.99, and players are showing up: concurrent players went from 8,365 to 25,336. If you’re tempted, there’s good news. Red Barrels’ horror game, which you can play solo or in a team, is easy on hardware. The Chemical Leak limited-time event also runs until Tuesday, October 6 at 10AM ET.

The Outlast Trials PC requirements

These are the official requirements from the Steam page:

The minimum targets 720p at 30 FPS on Low with DirectX 11. The recommended targets 1080p at 60 FPS on High with DirectX 12. Ray tracing is off in both, and you need a broadband connection.

Which GPU is enough

Every popular card we checked clears the minimum, so the real question is how close you get to the recommended. Our grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM:

• GTX 1650: clears the minimum but grades D (Struggles) against the recommended. It will run, with low settings.
• RX 580 and GTX 1060 6GB: grade C (Tight). They sit between the minimum and the recommended.
• RTX 3050: meets the recommended with a B (Solid), as do the GTX 1660 Super, RX 6600 XT and Arc B580.
• RTX 3060: moves up to A (Smooth), as do the RTX 4060 and RX 7600.

If your PC has 8 GB of RAM, you meet the minimum, but the recommended asks for 16 GB.

One thing for PC players: since Season 7.1 arrived on September 8, the game no longer supports mods. There is also no Mac or Linux version on Steam.

What about Steam Deck?
