Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition launched today, October 13, on Windows only for $39.99. If you already own the original SHOGUN 2 on Steam, the Total War team is offering a time-limited 75% loyalty discount on the upgrade to the Complete Edition, and you get the original DLC at no additional cost. At the time of writing it has 6,502 concurrent players on Steam. On October 12 we covered the requirements: a GTX 1060 at minimum and an RTX 2070 Super for recommended. Now that you can actually play it, here is what changes on PC compared with the original and where your GPU lands.

What the Complete Edition brings on PC

It includes all DLC, updated visuals, full Japanese voiceover and text, and over 50 newly playable minor factions. For your PC, the interesting part is under the hood:

  • 64-bit upgrade. The studio calls it a thorough tech rewrite so the game makes better use of modern PC architecture, and says it should be more stable across the board.
  • 1440p and 4K UI scaling. Most of the UI was reskinned so the scaling looks right, and you can set the UI scale to fit your monitor.
  • Fullscreen borderless mode. You can choose which monitor the game runs on and pause it when your mouse leaves the window.
  • Higher camera. New options set the max camera height for land and naval battles.

The original SHOGUN 2 stays available as it is: these changes apply only to the Complete Edition.

Which GPUs run it

canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM:

  • Clear the minimum but run tight (C): the RTX 3060, RTX 2060, RX 6600 XT, RX 7600 and Arc B580.

  • Fall short of the minimum: the GTX 1650 and the Radeon RX 580.

What about Steam Deck, Mac or Linux?

Valve has not verified the game on Steam Deck yet. A spec-based estimate puts it at F and below the minimum on paper, so it is worth waiting for the official rating; you can follow it on the game’s Steam Deck page. There is no native Mac or Linux version for now.
