Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition pulled from sale: what it means if you own it
SEGA and Creative Assembly are pulling Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition from sale after admitting it fell short. If you already own it, you can keep playing. Here is what they said, the requirements, and which GPUs run it.

On October 15, SEGA and Creative Assembly posted a statement on Steam admitting that Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition “has fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards.” That is a big step for a game that came out on October 13: they are working with platform holders to remove it from sale and to reinstate the original Shogun 2 while they investigate. If you already bought it, you can keep playing. What there isn’t yet is a patch or a date for a fix.
What is happening
On October 13 we told you the Complete Edition was out on Windows for $39.99, with a 75% discount if you owned the original. The picture has changed since then.
In the statement, SEGA and Creative Assembly say they have seen the feedback, comments, and reviews, and agree that “the current experience is not where it needs to be.” They do not spell out which problems they mean. They only say they are working closely with their development partner to identify the causes, deliver improvements, and make sure the Complete Edition meets the quality standards players expect from Total War.
What to do if you own it
- You can keep playing. The statement confirms that existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.
- The original is coming back. The plan is to reinstate the original Shogun 2 while the Complete Edition’s problems are investigated.
- No official fix yet. The studio promises improvements but gives no date, patch, or workaround steps for now.
Complete Edition requirements
If you already own it, these are still the requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce GTX 1060 3GB | GeForce RTX 2070 Super |
| CPU | Intel Core i3-8100 | AMD Ryzen 7 2700X |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 70 GB | 70 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
The minimum targets 1080p at 30 fps on High; the recommended targets 1080p at 60 fps on Medium.
An RTX 4060 or an RTX 3060 Ti meets the recommended with a B grade. An RTX 3060 or an RX 7600 clears the minimum with a C, measured against the recommended. The GTX 1660 Super also clears the minimum but lands at D, so it will struggle. The GTX 1650 and the RX 580 fall short of the minimum. Valve has not verified the game for Steam Deck, and our spec-based estimate gives it an F.
Keep in mind that a canirun grade measures your hardware against the requirements, not the problems the studio is investigating.
