AMD FSR 4.1 comes to Radeon RX 6000, Ryzen AI laptops and Z2 handhelds

AMD released the Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver today, October 20, and with it FSR Upscaling 4.1 reaches a lot more hardware: Radeon RX 6000 cards, Ryzen AI Max processors, Ryzen AI 9 laptops and handhelds with Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A chips. If you own an RX 6000, the generation AMD launched in 2020, this is the news that matters to you. Until now your card was stuck with FSR 3.1, and AMD promises a big jump in image quality without changing any hardware.

What AMD announced

FSR 4.1 is AMD’s machine learning upscaler. The game renders at a lower resolution, and FSR rebuilds a sharp image from those frames. Here is how it got here, according to AMD:

• 2025: FSR 4 launched only on Radeon RX 9000 GPUs.
• July 2026: FSR Upscaling 4.1 arrived on Radeon RX 7000 GPUs.
• Today: the rest of the list joins. Xbox Series X|S consoles get it soon.

AMD does not use the same version on every device:

• Radeon RX 6000: AMD optimized the INT8 model it built for the RX 7000 so it also runs on this generation.
• Ryzen AI Max: this is the official debut on the APUs in high-performance laptops and mini PCs, such as Ryzen AI Halo PCs and the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 and TUF A14. AMD says you can turn it on in hundreds of games.
• Ryzen AI 9 and Ryzen Z2: there is a new, more efficient version built for mainstream laptops and handhelds. AMD names the ASUS ROG XBOX Ally X with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme as an example.
• Xbox Series X|S: Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirms it is coming soon.

AMD also announced FSR 4 Vulkan support and better frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation on the same day. AMD notes that availability and timing may vary by device. If you play on a handheld, check the dates your manufacturer gives.

What it means if you are buying or upgrading a PC

• If you already have an RX 6000: install Adrenalin 26.10.1 from AMD.com. It is the cheapest upgrade you will see this year, because it costs nothing. If your card is an RX 6600 XT, check which games it runs.
• Your canirun grade does not change. Grades compare your GPU’s benchmark performance against each game’s recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM. FSR 4.1 helps with sharpness and smoothness inside games, but it does not raise your card’s grade.
• If you are shopping: AMD’s machine learning upscaling is no longer limited to its newest series. It now covers the RX 6000 and RX 7000 as well as the RX 9000, where FSR 4 debuted.
