Escape from Playtime is out in Early Access: what's in it and can your PC run it
Escape from Playtime launched October 21 in Steam Early Access with all 8 Smiling Critters and 1 to 8 player co-op. Here is what the launch build brings, its PC requirements and which popular GPUs run it.
In this guide 5
Escape from Playtime launched yesterday, October 21, in Steam Early Access. It’s Mob Entertainment’s co-op horror game set in an abandoned toy factory, and the launch build changes a few things from the Open Beta: all 8 Smiling Critters are playable and the game now supports 1 to 8 players. When we wrote this it had 2,121 concurrent players on Steam and was listed at $8.99 with a 10% discount. On October 20 we covered the PC requirements and which GPUs run it. That part did not change at launch.
What the launch brings
According to Mob Entertainment’s launch announcement:
- All 8 Smiling Critters: CatNap, Hoppy Hopscotch, Bobby Bearhug and DogDay are playable from the start. DogDay is new since the Open Beta. CraftyCorn, KickinChicken, Bubba Bubbaphant and PickyPiggy unlock through progression.
- 1 to 8 players: the studio says players loved having more people in a match during the beta, so the game is now officially a 1 to 8 player co-op. The store description still says 2 to 8.
- Project: Playtime Hoodie: if you own Project: Playtime and have played it at least once, this cosmetic shows up in your Steam Inventory automatically.
After the beta, on October 8, the studio also announced changes based on player feedback. There will be a map-type item to help with getting lost in the shifting halls, plus lit glowsticks that guide you to the starting elevator.
Escape from Playtime PC requirements
These are the same as on the Steam page before launch:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 470 | RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6800 XT |
| CPU | Core i3-9100 or Ryzen 5 3500 | Core i9-11900K or Ryzen 9 5900X |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | Not listed | Not listed |
| OS | Windows 10/11, 64-bit | Windows 10/11, 64-bit |
Both tiers require DirectX 12. It’s Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular card we checked clears the minimum, so the game will launch on all of them. The difference is how they grade against the recommended requirement, which is what canirun measures, assuming 16 GB of RAM:
- GTX 1650 and RX 580: they clear the minimum but grade F against the recommended. It will launch, and it will struggle.
- GTX 1660 Super and RTX 2060: grade D. They clear the minimum and struggle.
- RTX 3060 and RTX 4060: grade C, tight between minimum and recommended.
- RTX 3070 and RX 9070 XT: they meet the recommended with a B. The RTX 5070 reaches an A.
Watch the CPU: the recommended tier asks for a Core i9-11900K or Ryzen 9 5900X, a big step up from the minimum’s i3-9100. If your card sits on the line, see what else runs on an RTX 3060 or a GTX 1660 Super.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. Our estimate, based only on the specs, gives it an F and puts it below the minimum. You can follow the details on its Steam Deck page.
