Hogwarts Legacy gets DLSS 5 on November 5: what changes and which GPUs get it
NVIDIA confirmed DLSS 5 comes to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 for RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark. Here is what it brings, how to try Preset C on RTX 40 and 50 today, and which GPUs meet the requirements.
In this guide 5
NVIDIA announced on October 13 that DLSS 5, with its 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model, comes to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 in a game update. It is for GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark laptops. On the same day, NVIDIA also put a new Frame Generation performance mode into beta, called Preset C, which works on RTX 40 Series cards too. If you play Hogwarts Legacy on a recent NVIDIA card, this one is for you.
What is coming to Hogwarts Legacy
According to NVIDIA, the November 5 update adds DLSS Neural Rendering to the game and upgrades its other DLSS technologies to their newest versions. Hogwarts Legacy already supported DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX GPUs.
DLSS Neural Rendering uses AI to generate lighting and material detail on top of the frame the engine renders, as the final stage of the graphics pipeline. Avalanche Software used the DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the integration and keep the game’s artistic style.
The model arriving is the October version, which NVIDIA calls 2X faster: it is 24% smaller (roughly 118 million parameters), uses 20% less VRAM at 4K and has half the GPU overhead of the September version, with comparable visual fidelity. NVIDIA did not give fps figures for Hogwarts Legacy.
What you can do today
There is nothing to turn on for DLSS 5 yet: it arrives with the November 5 update, and only on RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark.
What you can try now is Preset C, if you have an RTX 40 or 50 Series card or an RTX Spark laptop. It replaces one of Frame Generation’s two AI models with a lighter algorithm, with minor trade-offs in image quality. On an RTX 5060, NVIDIA says it is up to 35% faster. Since Hogwarts Legacy supports Multi Frame Generation, these are NVIDIA’s steps:
- Install the latest NVIDIA app update.
- In Settings > About, tick “Opt in to access Beta or experimental features” and install the beta when prompted.
- In “Graphics”, select Hogwarts Legacy (or “Global Settings” to apply it to every supported game).
- Scroll to “Driver Settings”, click “DLSS Override - Model Presets” and choose “Custom”.
- In the “Frame Generation” drop-down, choose “Preset C” and click “Apply”. If it is not visible, reboot your system.
Hogwarts Legacy PC requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce GTX 960 4GB or Radeon RX 470 4GB | GeForce 1080 Ti, Radeon RX 5700 XT or Arc A770 |
| CPU | Core i5-6600 or Ryzen 5 1400 | Core i7-8700 or Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 85 GB (SSD preferred, HDD supported) | 85 GB on SSD |
| OS | 64-bit Windows 10 | 64-bit Windows 10 |
The minimum targets 720p at 30 fps on low settings; the recommended targets 1080p at 60 fps on high. Both ask for 16 GB of RAM: if you are unsure about yours, see how much RAM you need for gaming.
Which GPUs run it well
Every GPU we track clears the minimum. Grades are measured against the recommended: a GTX 1650 or RX 580 clears the minimum but struggles (D), the RTX 3060 and RTX 4060 meet the recommended (B), and the RTX 5070 lands at A, with room to spare. The RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 (S) are the cards on our list that will get DLSS 5; the RTX 4060 and 4070 can use Preset C.
On Steam Deck, Valve rates it Verified.
Can your PC run Hogwarts Legacy?
Here is how your PC grades against Hogwarts Legacy and Monster Hunter Wilds, which asks for a similar recommended GPU:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 15,050 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
| | 15,500 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
