Hogwarts Legacy and DLSS 5: how to enable Neural Rendering and NVIDIA's 300 fps claim
DLSS 5 arrives in Hogwarts Legacy on Thursday, November 5 for RTX 50 Series, RTX Spark and GeForce NOW Ultimate. Here is how to turn on Neural Rendering, which settings NVIDIA recommends and which GPUs meet the requirements.

NVIDIA published the final details of DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy today, November 3. The update arrives on Thursday, November 5, and you turn it on with an option called “Neural Rendering” in the game’s settings. It works on all GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop GPUs and laptops, RTX Spark PCs and GeForce NOW Ultimate. On October 14 we told you the date was confirmed. What is new is how to enable it, which settings NVIDIA recommends and the performance numbers it is quoting.
What DLSS 5 does in Hogwarts Legacy
DLSS 5 introduces what NVIDIA calls 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. It starts from the frame the game engine already rendered, with its geometry, textures and lighting, and uses AI as the final stage of the pipeline to add lighting and material detail. It runs on a 2X faster AI model that NVIDIA released last month for RTX 50 Series and RTX Spark systems. For you, it is a simple on or off toggle.
In Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software tuned it to boost environments while preserving character identity. According to NVIDIA, the option enhances environment detail and shadows, improves texture detail on characters, refines shading and lighting, and makes reflections more vibrant. Jose Villeta, Director of Software Engineering at Avalanche Software, said the studio worked with NVIDIA to tune environments, tone and skin while keeping the game true to its original vision.
How to turn it on and what NVIDIA recommends
The steps are short:
- Update the game when the November 5 patch lands.
- Open the in-game options and turn on “Neural Rendering”.
NVIDIA also recommends enabling DLSS Super Resolution under “Upscale Type”, DLSS Multi Frame Generation under “Frame Generation” and NVIDIA Reflex under “Low Latency Mode”. If you use the game’s ray-traced effects, add “DLSS Ray Reconstruction”.
With Neural Rendering, 6X Multi Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, Reflex and ray tracing on, NVIDIA says max-setting Hogwarts Legacy runs at 4K at up to 300 frames per second on a GeForce RTX 5090. At 2560x1440 it quotes up to 370 frames per second. Keep in mind those numbers use frame generation, so they are not native frame rates.
If you have an RTX 40, an RTX 30 or a Radeon card, NVIDIA does not include it in the Neural Rendering list. GeForce NOW Ultimate is the route NVIDIA offers to try it without an RTX 50 Series GPU.
Hogwarts Legacy PC requirements
NVIDIA does not mention any change to the requirements. These are still the ones on the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 960 4GB or RX 470 4GB | GTX 1080 Ti, RX 5700 XT or Arc A770 |
| CPU | Core i5-6600 or Ryzen 5 1400 | Core i7-8700 or Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 85 GB (SSD preferred, HDD supported) | 85 GB on SSD |
| OS | 64-bit Windows 10 | 64-bit Windows 10 |
The minimum targets 720p at 30 fps on low settings. The recommended targets 1080p at 60 fps on high. Both tiers ask for 16 GB of RAM, so if you have less, check our RAM guide.
Every GPU we checked clears the minimum. Here is how they grade, measured against the recommended requirement:
- GTX 1650, GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 grade D: they run the game, but struggle.
- GTX 1660 Super, RTX 2060 and Arc B580 land at C, tight.
- RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 grade B, solid.
- RTX 5070 grades A and RTX 5080 grades S. They are among the few cards on this list that can also turn on DLSS 5.
On Steam Deck, Valve rates it Verified. The Steam Deck page for the game has the details.
Can your PC run Hogwarts Legacy?
Here is how your PC grades against Hogwarts Legacy and Monster Hunter Wilds, another demanding action RPG:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 15,050 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
| | 15,500 | 16 GB | 16 GB | ? |
