Airframe Ultra is out on PC: launch week event, Videocult's plans and requirements
Airframe Ultra is out on Steam for Windows, 25% off for its first 14 days. Here is the Eight Days to Infamy schedule, what Videocult plans after 1.0, and which GPUs run it, from the GTX 1650 up.
In this guide 5
Airframe Ultra launched on Steam on November 5, Windows only, and it is 25% off for its first 14 days: $9.74 instead of $12.99. It is an online multiplayer combat racing game, and the launch comes with two pieces of news: Akupara Games kicked off a week of challenges with prizes, and Videocult shared what comes after this 1.0 release. On November 4 we covered which GPUs run it, and the requirements have not changed.
Eight Days to Infamy: launch week
From November 5 through November 12, every day brings a new challenge with its own prize. Riv posts the challenge in the Airframe Ultra Discord at 9AM Pacific, and each player can submit one entry per day. Here is the schedule:
- November 5: fan art
- November 6: fan fiction
- November 7: cosplay
- November 8: combat clip
- November 9: racing clip
- November 10: in-game outfit
- November 11: wildcard, for anything else
- November 12: celebration livestream, where the winners are announced at the Infamy Awards
If you run into bugs, the team asks you to report them in its bug report forum. When we put this post together, there were 277 concurrent players on Steam.
What comes after 1.0
James and Joar from Videocult explained that their previous game was a retro 2D platformer, so jumping to a 3D multiplayer racer with character creation, matchmaking and progression is a big step. That is why they are taking the launch slowly: 1.0 focuses on the fundamentals, on breaking in as few ways as possible and on being a good introduction for new players.
Once the launch bugs are worked out, the plan is to keep the pace of the beta and roll out new content every quarter or so.
Airframe Ultra PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 650 (1 GB), Radeon HD 7750 (1 GB) or Intel HD Graphics 630 | GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB) or Radeon RX 560 (4 GB) |
| CPU | Core i3-3220 or AMD FX-4300 | Core i5-6400 or Ryzen 3 1200 |
| RAM | 6 GB | 8 GB |
| Storage | 1 GB | 1 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 or 11 64-bit |
It needs DirectX 11 and a broadband connection. The studio highly recommends a gamepad for better steering control.
Which GPUs run it, and the Steam Deck
Every GPU on our list clears both the minimum and the recommended. The most modest one, the GTX 1650, grades B against the recommended, which means it meets it. The GTX 1060 6GB and the RX 580 grade A, and from the RTX 3050 up everything lands at S. If you have an older PC, this is one worth trying.
On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified it yet. On specs, the Deck clears the minimum and our estimate is a D against the recommended: that is a spec-based estimate, not a test, and it suggests the game will run with little headroom. You can check the details on its Steam Deck page.
