SILENT HILL: Townfall patch 1.6.0 arrived on October 28 on PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store. It brings one addition that only matters on PC: a DLSS Ray Reconstruction option. It also adds a new Hard difficulty mode, rebalances every difficulty level and reorganizes the options menu. This is not the first patch to touch the technical side: on September 30, version 1.3.1 reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues.
What patch 1.6.0 brings
These are the main changes, according to Konami’s official notes:
- DLSS Ray Reconstruction: a new option, on PC only. The notes do not say which cards support it or how much it changes performance or image quality.
- Hard mode: a new difficulty. Every difficulty mode was rebalanced for a smoother curve, with resource adjustments in some sections.
- Enemies: their hearing sensitivity now varies by difficulty and increases with the difficulty level.
- Map: your position is now visible on the map in all difficulty modes.
- Options menu: restructured to better separate options into categories. The controls remapping option was renamed, because keyboard and mouse commands can be remapped there too.
The patch also adds more hints and tutorials and improves valve status lighting for colorblind players. The rest is general improvements and bug fixes.
What to do on your PC
Update the game. To confirm you have the patch, Konami asks you to check that the lower right corner of the main menu shows version v1.6.155963. Then look for the Ray Reconstruction option in the options menu, which is now organized by category. Konami has not published recommended settings or performance figures for the option. To find out whether it helps, test it on your own system.
SILENT HILL: Townfall PC requirements
The patch notes do not mention any change to the requirements. These are the ones from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600 | RTX 3080 or RX 7800 XT |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K | Ryzen 7 5700X or Core i7-9700K |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 75 GB | 75 GB |
| OS | Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
The minimum targets Low settings at 1080p and 30fps. The recommended targets High settings at 4K and 30fps, using DLSS, FSR or TSR in Balanced mode. Both require DirectX 12.
Which GPUs run it
Among the popular cards we check, the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 clear the minimum. Against the recommended requirement they grade D: they run it, but they will struggle. The RTX 3070 also clears the minimum and grades C. To clear the recommended you need an RTX 4070, which grades C, or an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT, which grade B. The regular RTX 2060, the RTX 3050 and the Arc B580 fall below the minimum. Keep in mind that these grades assume 16 GB of RAM, and the recommended spec asks for 32 GB.
On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified the game. Our spec-based estimate gives it an F, and it does not reach the minimum. There is more detail on its Steam Deck page.
