R.E.P.O., semiwork’s online co-op horror game for up to 6 players, got its fourth major update today, October 29: v0.5.0, The Sunstone Update. Players came back fast. Concurrent players on Steam jumped from 9,542 to 46,656. Whether you’re new to the game or returning after a break, the good news is that it’s still light on hardware: a GTX 970 for the minimum and just 1 GB of storage.
What the Sunstone Update brings
Here are the highlights from the official Steam notes:
- A new level, Sunstone Valley Resort, and a new enemy, Pony.
- Gamepad support, plus an expression wheel and an adjustable grab lead for both mouse and gamepad, with separate settings for grabbing and melee.
- 21 new languages and 10 new cosmetics.
- More rooms in existing maps: 5 in Headman Manor, 4 in Swiftbroom Academy, 4 in Museum of Human Art and 5 in McJannek Station.
- New items: Human Gun, Human Adventure Cable and Recharge Orb.
- Fewer freezes when loading levels, and your microphone input now stays on between levels.
That last change is the one PC players will notice most if your machine used to hitch on every transition.
R.E.P.O. PC requirements
These are the Windows requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 970 | GTX 1070 |
| CPU | Core i5 6600 | Intel Core i7 8700 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 8 GB |
| Storage | 1 GB | 1 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
The minimum lists DirectX 10 and the recommended lists DirectX 12. Both need a broadband connection, since it’s an online game. It’s Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version. On Steam it’s $6.49 with a 35% discount.
Which GPUs run it
We checked the requirements against the most common GPUs. Grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM:
- RTX 3060 and RX 7600: grade A, smooth. Your graphics card won’t be what slows you down while you haul that vase.
- RTX 2060, RTX 3050 and Arc B580: grade B, solid. They meet the recommended spec.
- GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 1660 Super: they clear the minimum but not the recommended, with a C. It runs, but with little headroom.
- RX 580: clears the minimum with a D, so expect to lower settings.
- GTX 1650: falls below the minimum.
If your card is near the line, see what else it runs: GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660 Super or RX 580.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve tested it and rated it Playable. With gamepad support arriving in this update, now is a good time to try it on the Deck. Details are on R.E.P.O. on Steam Deck.
Can your PC run R.E.P.O.?
