  5. Can your PC run CRACK?

CRACK launched on Steam on October 26. It is a 1-4 player co-op incremental adventure from Rafoli, and your job is to crack open a giant egg in a lab without asking questions. It arrived with 120,000 wishlists, according to its developer, costs $7.99 with 15% off during launch week, and has 2,125 concurrent players right now. The good news for PC players is that it takes up only 3 GB and also runs on Mac, Linux and Steam Deck.

CRACK PC requirements

These are the Windows requirements listed on the Steam store page:

MinimumRecommended
GPUGTX 1050 Ti or RX 570 (4 GB VRAM)GTX 1660 Super, RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT (6 GB)
CPUIntel i5-6600 or Ryzen 5 1600Intel i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600
RAM8 GB16 GB
Storage3 GB3 GB
OSWindows 10 64-bitWindows 10/11 64-bit

The minimum asks for DirectX 11 and the recommended for DirectX 12.

Which GPUs run it

Every popular GPU we checked clears the minimum. What changes is how much headroom you get against the recommended:

  • GTX 1650: clears the minimum but grades D (Struggles) against the recommended. You can play, with little headroom.
  • GTX 1060 6GB: clears the minimum and grades C (Tight) against the recommended.
  • RTX 3050: meets the recommended and grades B (Solid).
  • RTX 4060: has room to spare, grading A (Smooth) against the recommended.

These grades assume 16 GB of RAM, which is exactly what the recommended asks for. With 8 GB you meet the minimum.

Mac, Linux and Steam Deck

On Mac you need macOS 12 Monterey or later. The minimum is an Apple M1 with 8 GB of RAM, and the recommended is an M1 Pro or M2 with 16 GB. On Linux the game asks for SteamOS 3 or Ubuntu 22.04 or later, with the same hardware as on Windows.

Valve tested CRACK on Steam Deck and rates it Verified. You can find the details on its Steam Deck page.

The first patches

Rafoli has already shipped two hotfixes. The second one, version 1.0.35, fixes Calcite not appearing for hosts on a few specific AMD and Intel graphics cards. It also adds a “Reduce Camera Motion” setting to the general menu to help with motion sickness. Hosting and joining now give up after 30 seconds if no connection to Steam is found, instead of hanging. The first one, version 1.0.31, raised the Steam timeout from 10 to 30 seconds to help with dropped connections and added an invert Y axis toggle.
