Deep Silver announced a free “Next-Gen” update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux. It arrives on PC on October 22, 2026, and on consoles on October 29. If you already own the games on Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store or GOG, you pay nothing. The part that matters on PC: it adds DLSS and spatial audio support, plus 4K textures.
What the Next-Gen Update brings on PC
Deep Silver is clear that this is not a remaster or a remake. The original Metro Redux experience and look stay intact, with improvements aimed at modern hardware. Here is what the announcement lists:
- DLSS and spatial audio on PC.
- 4K textures on all platforms.
- Better quality in animations, audio and environmental detail.
- Bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements requested by the community.
The 4K at 60 fps and 4K at 120 fps upscaled figures in the announcement are for consoles, not PC. The studio says full patch notes, with technical details for each platform, will come at release: for now this is a preview. That means we do not know yet whether the requirements or the download size change.
Two more details. Metro 2033 Redux has Mac and Linux versions on Steam, but the announcement does not mention them. And if you do not own the game, Steam lists it at $1.99 with a 90% discount right now, a good time to jump in before Metro 2039 arrives on February 4.

On the current requirements, any gaming PC from the last several years runs it with room to spare.
On Steam Deck, Valve rates it Verified. The announcement says nothing specific about the Deck, so check the Metro 2033 Redux Steam Deck page for details.
