AION 2 is live on PC and hit 400,000 players: which GPUs can run it

AION 2, NC’s free-to-play MMORPG built on Unreal Engine 5, is now live on PC. It launched today, October 5, at 6:00 PDT (15:00 CEST), after the maintenance that ended Advanced Access and started the commercial launch. The start was strong: NC announced the game reached 400,000 active users and is celebrating with a gift of 15 Resurrection Spiritstone (Bound). As of writing, Steam shows 395,298 concurrent players.

On October 4 we went over its requirements and which GPUs run it. Now that anyone can download it for free, the fine print deserves a closer look, because it changes a lot about what to expect from your PC.

AION 2 PC requirements

These are the official requirements from the Steam page. The game is Windows only and needs DirectX 12 and a broadband connection:

The fine print matters: NC notes that at FHD resolution, the minimum spec should use the Very Low graphics preset and the recommended spec the Low preset. In other words, the RTX 2070 in the recommended column is not meant for high settings: it is the card for playing at FHD on low. Set aside 100 GB of space too, ideally on an SSD.

Which graphics cards run it

Every card we checked clears the minimum. The difference is how each one grades against the recommended spec (canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM):

• Meet the recommended: the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 grade B. The RTX 4070 and RX 9070 XT reach A, and the RTX 5080 grades S.
• Tight, between minimum and recommended: the RTX 2060, GTX 1660 Super, RX 6600 XT and Arc B580 grade C. They run the game, with less headroom than NC asks for.
• Clear the minimum but will struggle: the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 grade D, and the GTX 1650 grades F. All three clear the minimum, so the game launches, but expect the Very Low preset at FHD.

What about Steam Deck?

Valve has not verified AION 2 for Steam Deck yet. Based on a spec-only estimate, the Deck lands at F and falls short of the minimum. On Steam the game is also listed for Windows only. You can track its status on its Steam Deck page.
