Euro Truck Simulator 2 is 75% off on Steam, at $4.99, and it comes with fresh additions. Update 1.61 landed on September 17 with Proximity Exploration, an option that reveals a small area of the map around your vehicle as you drive. SCS Software has also shown Mode Switch, one of the new systems in the upcoming Coaches DLC: it separates Truck Mode, built around hauling cargo, from Coach Mode, which focuses on operating routes with passengers. The Car Mode mentioned in the same announcement comes with Road Trip, the American Truck Simulator DLC. Your money and map exploration carry across modes. Right now the game has 36,053 concurrent players on Steam. If you are tempted by the price, the good news is that this 2012 game is still easy on hardware, although its current store page asks for Windows 10 and a GTX 1660 for the recommended spec.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 PC requirements
These are the Windows requirements listed on Steam:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GTX 660, RX 460 or Intel HD 630 (2 GB VRAM) | GTX 1660 or RX 590 (2 GB VRAM) |
| CPU | Core i5-6400 or Ryzen 3 1200 | Core i5-9600 or Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 12 GB |
| Storage | 25 GB | 25 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
One note on storage: the 25 GB figure is for the base game, according to the store page itself.
Which graphics cards run it
Every card on canirun’s list clears the minimum. The difference is how much headroom you get against the recommended spec, which is what our grade is measured against (assuming 16 GB of RAM):
- GTX 1650: clears the minimum and grades D against the recommended. It runs, but it struggles.
- GTX 1060 6GB: clears the minimum and grades C against the recommended. Tight.
- GTX 1660 Super: meets the recommended, with a B.
- RTX 3060: sits above the recommended, with an A. Smooth.
For RAM, the minimum is 8 GB and the recommended is 12 GB.
Mac, Linux and Steam Deck
The game has native Mac and Linux versions. On Mac it asks for macOS 11 (Big Sur), a quad core CPU at 3.3 GHz for the minimum and 4.6 GHz for the recommended, 8 GB of RAM minimum and 12 GB recommended, with an Intel HD 630 or similar for the minimum and a GTX 1660 or similar for the recommended. Linux has the same numbers on Ubuntu 12.04, with one warning: SCS recommends recent binary ATI or NVIDIA drivers, because MESA may not work reliably.
On Steam Deck, Valve rates it Verified. On canirun it grades F against the recommended spec, but it clears the minimum: it runs, with little headroom, so do not expect recommended-level quality. The details are on the game’s Steam Deck page.
