Transport Fever 3 Launches Native on Mac and Linux: Requirements for Each System

Transport Fever 3 is out today on Steam with native versions for Apple Silicon Macs and Linux from day one. What it needs on Windows, Mac and Linux, why the CPU matters as much as the GPU, and whether your machine runs it.

In this guide 5
  1. Windows requirements
  2. On Mac: Apple Silicon only, starting at M2 Pro
  3. On Linux: Ubuntu 24.04 and the same hardware as Windows
  4. Watch the CPU
  5. Can your PC run Transport Fever 3?

Transport Fever 3 launched today, September 29, on Steam for $49.99, and it brings something uncommon for a release this size: native Mac and Linux versions from day one, with no compatibility layer in between. If you play outside Windows, this one is for you.

Windows requirements

MinimumRecommended
GPUGTX 1060, RX 480 or Arc A380 (4 GB VRAM)RTX 3070, RX 6800 or Arc A770 (8 GB VRAM)
CPUCore i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600XCore i7-13700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D
RAM8 GB16 GB
Storage90 GB on SSD90 GB on SSD
OS64-bit Windows 10 or 11Windows 11

On Mac: Apple Silicon only, starting at M2 Pro

  • Minimum: Apple M2 Pro (the 2023 14” MacBook Pro chip), 16 GB of memory and macOS Sequoia 15.7 or later.
  • Recommended: Apple M4 Pro (the 2024 Mac mini chip) with 24 GB of memory.
  • Storage: 90 GB on SSD.

Intel Macs are out. And since the minimum names a Pro chip, the base chips (M1, M2, M3 or M4 without Pro or Max) sit below what the developers ask for. There is no published testing on those chips yet, so if you have one, try it inside Steam’s refund window: under two hours played and within 14 days of purchase. See every native Mac game to compare with the rest of the catalog.

On Linux: Ubuntu 24.04 and the same hardware as Windows

The Linux version asks for Ubuntu 24.04 or later, with the same hardware as Windows at both minimum and recommended. It is native, so it does not rely on Proton. Everything else that runs natively is in Linux games.

Watch the CPU

Two details that are easy to miss:

  • It requires AVX2 instructions. Very old or some budget CPUs lack them, and without them the game will not run.
  • The recommended CPU is a Core i7-13700K or a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. That is a lot of processor for a management game, and it makes sense: simulating thousands of vehicles and routes loads the CPU harder than the GPU.

The canirun grade is based on GPU and RAM. In a simulation game like this one, if your GPU passes but your CPU is several years old, big maps will likely slow down late in a save.
