  1. Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements

  3. What about the Steam Deck?
  4. Can your PC run Gears of War: E-Day?

Gears of War: E-Day launched on October 6 on Steam, Xbox on PC, Game Pass and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $69.99 on Steam. The PC launch is off to a strong start: when we put this together it had 31,206 concurrent players on Steam, and it already shows up on SteamDB’s weekly Steam top sellers list next to ACE COMBAT 8 and EA SPORTS FC 27. On October 5 we told you about the launch time and the cloud option. Now that the game is playable, here is which cards run it and with how much headroom.

The story goes back to the opening hours of Emergence Day: Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago and their new squad mates try to survive three days and nights of the Locust invasion in the city of Kalona.

Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements

These are the official requirements from the Steam page:

MinimumRecommended
GPUHardware ray tracing required: RTX 5050, RTX 2060, RX 6600 or RX 9060RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT
CPURyzen 5 2600X, Core i7-6850K or Core i5-10400Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K
RAM12 GB16 GB
Storage115 GB on SSD115 GB on SSD
OSWindows 10 64-bit (22H 19045.7291)Windows 11 64-bit (25H2) or newer

On September 29, when pre-load opened, we flagged that the minimum requires hardware ray tracing. Three things still matter more than the rest:

  • Hardware ray tracing is required. It is not a graphics option: without a compatible GPU you do not meet the minimum.
  • An SSD is required, with 115 GB free on both the minimum and recommended specs.
  • Windows 11 25H2 or newer on the recommended spec.

Which cards run it

canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM:

  • Clear the recommended: the RTX 4070, RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT grade B (Solid), and the RTX 5080 grades A (Smooth).
  • Clear the minimum but fall short of the recommended: the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 and RTX 3070 grade C (Tight). The RTX 2060, RTX 3060, RX 6600 XT and RX 7600 grade D: they run it, but they will struggle. Note the 3060 Ti: it is on the official recommended list, but on our scale it grades C.
  • Don’t reach the minimum: the GTX 1650, GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660 Super and RX 580. The RTX 3050 and Arc B580 don’t clear it either, even though they grade D against the recommended.

What about the Steam Deck?

Valve has not verified it yet. Our spec-based estimate gives it an F and puts it below the minimum, but that is all it is: an estimate from the specs, not a test. You can keep an eye on it on the game’s Steam Deck page.

Can your PC run Gears of War: E-Day?

Here is how it compares with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, also on this week’s top sellers list, and Borderlands 4, which asks for a recommended GPU in a similar range:
