On October 1 CD Projekt Red released hotfix 5.00c for the Steam version of The Witcher 3 Remastered. It brings two fixes that matter on PC. The first reverts a change that caused significant performance and visual issues with HairWorks enabled for some users. The second fixes a bug that stopped the game from saving or loading when the path to your Documents folder contained special characters. On September 29 we told you that the Remastered raised the bar, with a GTX 1660 and 12 GB of RAM now the minimum. This patch does not change that.

What hotfix 5.00c brings

  • HairWorks: the change that caused significant performance and visual issues for some users has been reverted. If you turned it off because of that, you can try it again after updating.
  • Saving and loading: both now work even if the path to your Documents folder has special characters.
  • Classic version: the Classic (1.32) version of the game launches again.
  • Audio: voiceover no longer gets much quieter than other in-game audio after you browse the pause menu tabs.
  • Velen: visual adjustments to bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation and Path Tracing lighting.
  • Telemetry: marketing telemetry settings now save properly.

The studio closes the notes by saying it is still investigating the issues players report. If you have not updated your graphics drivers yet, do it: according to PC Gamer, CD Projekt urged players to update them on launch day. And if you play with mods, PC Gamer also reports that more than 450 had been updated for the Remastered within two days of release.

The Witcher 3 Remastered PC requirements

The patch does not touch the requirements. They are still the ones on the Steam page:

MinimumRecommended
GPUGTX 1660, RX 5500 XT 8GB or Arc A580 (6 GB VRAM)RTX 2060 Super, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580 (8 GB VRAM)
CPUCore i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600X
RAM12 GB16 GB
Storage60 GB on SSD60 GB on SSD
OS64-bit Windows 1164-bit Windows 11

Which GPUs run it

A GTX 1060 6GB falls below the Remastered’s minimum. The GTX 1660 Super clears the minimum but grades C (Tight) against the recommended: it runs, with little headroom. The RTX 3060 meets the recommended with a B, and the RTX 4070 moves up to an A (Smooth). All of these grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM.

What about Steam Deck?

Valve rates it Verified, so on Steam Deck it is tested and approved.
