Silver Pines, the survival horror metroidvania from Wych Elm and Team17, launched October 8 on Steam and got its first patch a day later. Hotfix 1, posted October 9, mainly targets the performance and optimization issues some players have been running into, and it brings one change worth knowing: when you boot the game, you can now launch it in DirectX 11. On October 7 we told you which GPU you needed for launch. The requirements have not changed; what is new is an extra option to get more performance out of your PC.
What Hotfix 1 brings
- A DirectX 11 launcher option meant to help improve performance.
- Fixes for a few specific scenarios that could cause softlocks.
- A fix for enemies blocking the elevator in the Union Apartments building.
The studio’s advice is simple: if you are having performance issues, especially on Steam Deck, launch the game in DirectX 11 and see if it improves. That is the only recommendation in the patch; the developers did not share other settings or performance numbers.
Silver Pines PC requirements
These are the official requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce GTX 660 Ti or Radeon R9 270X | GeForce GTX 770 or Radeon R9 380 |
| CPU | Core i5-4460 or Ryzen 3 1200 | Core i5-6600 or Ryzen 5 1600 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 8 GB |
| Storage | 5 GB | 5 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
The Steam page still lists DirectX 12 for both tiers; the DirectX 11 option arrived with the hotfix. The game is Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular GPU we checked clears both the minimum and the recommended. The most modest card on the list, the GTX 1650, grades B (Solid) measured against the recommended. The GTX 1060 6GB and the Radeon RX 580 move up to A (Smooth), and from the RTX 3060 up the grade is S (Overkill). If you still run into performance issues, the DirectX 11 option is the first thing the studio suggests.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve rates Silver Pines Verified on Steam Deck. If you notice performance issues on the handheld, the studio specifically asks you to try the DirectX 11 mode. You can find more on the game’s Steam Deck page.
