Planet Zoo 2 update 1.0.4 fixes DLSS and FSR: what it means for your GPU

Planet Zoo 2 update 1.0.4 fixes DLSS and FSR, improves performance and fixes crashes. Here is what changed, the PC requirements, and which popular GPUs clear the minimum and recommended specs according to canirun.

Frontier released Planet Zoo 2 update 1.0.4 on October 14, the first patch since launch. It brings the fix that matters most if your PC is on the edge: according to the official notes, DLSS and FSR should now work correctly when you select them in the Graphics menu. On October 13 we told you which GPU you need to run it on launch day. Since then, Frontier says the game has passed the all-time concurrent player record of the original Planet Zoo. The studio has also announced another update for this Friday, ahead of the weekend.

What update 1.0.4 fixes

The update has been available since 2 PM BST on October 14. Here is what touches your PC:

  • DLSS and FSR: they should now work correctly when selected in the Graphics menu.
  • Performance and stability: various improvements, plus fixes for several crashes.
  • Audio: no more distortion when cycling through the heatmap tabs.
  • Keybinds: custom keybindings no longer reset when you open the Hub, Animal Trading or Animal Storage.

In Franchise Mode, Frontier resolved several factors affecting stability and gave players greater access to initial animal trading volumes. Some issues are still open, and the studio is keeping them high on its list. Animals sometimes climb, jump or escape their habitats when they shouldn’t, and some don’t line up with their enrichments. Frontier is also looking at feedback on the creative toolset.

Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements

These are the requirements from the Steam page. Both tiers call for DirectX 12:

MinimumRecommended
GPURTX 2060 (6 GB VRAM), RX 5600 XT (6 GB) or Arc A750 (8 GB)RTX 3070 (8 GB VRAM), RX 6700 XT (12 GB) or Arc A770 (16 GB)
CPUCore i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X
RAM16 GB16 GB
Storage40 GB, SSD recommended40 GB, SSD required
OSWindows 10 or 11, 64-bitWindows 11, 64-bit

Two notes on the Steam page are worth knowing. The SSD is required at the recommended tier. Frontier also warns that Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10, so it cannot guarantee ongoing compatibility.

Why the DLSS and FSR fix matters for your GPU

According to canirun, the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 clear the minimum and grade C against the recommended spec: they run the game, but it’s tight. The RTX 2060 and RX 6600 XT also clear the minimum, with a D: the game runs, but they will struggle. On those cards, DLSS or FSR are the settings most likely to help, and they weren’t working properly until this patch.

To reach the recommended spec you need an RTX 3070, RTX 4070 or RX 9070 XT, which grade B. The RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 grade A. Watch out with the RTX 3050 and the Intel Arc B580: canirun puts both below the minimum.

Nothing new on Steam Deck: Valve rates it Verified. You can see the details on its Steam Deck page.
