Valor Mortis is out on PC: an apparently lower minimum and the GPUs that run it
Valor Mortis launched today on Steam and, according to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, appears to have cut its minimum requirements. The Steam spec sheet, which GPUs clear the minimum and the recommended per canirun, the RTX 3070 and Steam Deck.

Valor Mortis is available on Steam as of today, October 13, for $39.99, and at the time of writing it has 2,162 concurrent players. It is the first-person soulslike from One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner. There may be good news for modest PCs: according to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, the studio appears to have cut the minimum CPU and graphics card right before launch. We do not have the earlier spec sheet to compare, so we leave it at what the outlet reports. On October 12 we went over its requirements ahead of release. This is the Steam spec sheet it ships with.
In its launch announcement, the studio says the playtest and the demo helped make the game more polished and better optimized, with a 20-hour campaign, and that a major story DLC is coming next year. In its October 9 announcement it had already confirmed a New Game+ mode for later this year. Rock, Paper, Shotgun’s review calls it one of the freshest Soulslikes in years.
Valor Mortis PC requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | RX 5600 XT or GTX 1660 Ti | RX 6800 or RTX 3070 |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i5-10600K | Ryzen 7 5800X or Core i5-13400 |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 60 GB on SSD | 60 GB on SSD |
| OS | Windows 10/11 | Windows 10/11 |
The minimum targets 30 fps at 1080p on Low, and the recommended targets 60 fps at 1440p on Medium. Both assume upscaling is on. The game needs DirectX 12 and an SSD is required. It is Windows only: there is no Mac or Linux version.
Which graphics cards run it
One note before the grades. canirun grades assume 16 GB of RAM and are measured against the recommended spec in our data, which currently sits at the level of an RX 7900 GRE or RTX 4070. That bar is higher than the RX 6800 or RTX 3070 shown on Steam. The minimum, on the other hand, matches the table.
- Clear our recommended: the RTX 4070, RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT grade B, and the RTX 5080 reaches A.
- The RTX 3070, in between: Steam’s spec sheet lists it as the recommended card, but against our recommended it grades C (Tight). It clears the minimum comfortably and sits between the minimum and our recommended.
- Clear the minimum with little headroom: the RTX 2060, RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060, RX 6600 XT, RX 7600 and Arc B580. Against the recommended they grade D: they run it, but they will struggle.
- Fall below the minimum: the GTX 1660 Super, RTX 3050, GTX 1060 6GB, RX 580 and GTX 1650. Watch out with the GTX 1660 Super: the minimum names the GTX 1660 Ti, but in our data the Super falls short.
If your card is in that last group, you have another option. On October 7 we told you that Valor Mortis is coming to the cloud with Xbox Game Pass.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. Based on its specs, our estimate is an F, which would put the Deck below the minimum. That is only a spec-based estimate, not a test on the device. You can follow its status on the Valor Mortis Steam Deck page.
