Playrooms is out on PC: system requirements and which GPUs run it
Playrooms launched on Steam on November 4, Windows only. Here are its minimum and recommended requirements, which popular GPUs clear them, the catch with the RX 580, and how it looks on Steam Deck.
In this guide 5
Playrooms has been out on Steam since November 4. It is a casual simulation game from Two Pixels UG where you put away thousands of balls scattered around a set of playrooms, and it is Windows only. Launch was planned for October 28, but it slipped because Steam’s review was not finished in time. The studio used the extra week to add content. Right now it has 779 concurrent players and costs $5.59 with a 20% discount. If your PC has a few years on it, check the requirements before you buy: the minimum starts at a GTX 1060 6GB.
Playrooms PC requirements
These are the official requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6GB) or AMD RX 580 | NVIDIA RTX 2060 (6 GB) or AMD RX 5700 |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
Both tiers list DirectX 11. There is no Mac or Linux version.
Which GPUs run it
Canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM. Here is where some of the most common cards land:
- GTX 1060 6GB: clears the minimum exactly, but grades D against the recommended. It runs, though it will struggle. See what else the GTX 1060 6GB runs.
- GTX 1660 Super, RTX 3050 and Arc B580: clear the minimum and sit between minimum and recommended, with a C: tight. More on the Arc B580 page.
- RTX 2060, RTX 3060 and RX 7600: meet the recommended and grade B. The RTX 2060 is the exact card the studio recommends.
- RTX 3070 and RTX 4070: run it with headroom, grading A. An RTX 5070 is overkill.
One odd detail: Steam names the RX 580 in the minimum, but its canirun score lands below the game’s minimum, same as the GTX 1650. If you have either card, do not take it for granted: check your exact grade before you buy.
What the launch brings
According to the launch announcement, the studio used the delay to add a few things:
- Whiteboard upgrade: pen, eraser, lines, rectangles, circles, four brush sizes and undo/redo.
- Two hands: you can now carry two tools at once.
- Four new languages: French, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese.
- Community event: all players together need to collect one billion balls by November 15, with three milestones (100,000,000, 500,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 balls) that unlock secret rewards for everyone.
The full version also adds 5 new rooms and new cleaning tools.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. Our spec-based estimate gives it an F and puts it below the minimum, so this is not one to buy with the Deck in mind. Keep an eye on the Playrooms Steam Deck page in case that changes.
Can your PC run Playrooms?
Here is how your setup grades against Playrooms and two other laid-back sims in the catalog:
| Game | Rec. GPU score | Rec. RAM | Min. RAM | Your PC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | 14,300 | 16 GB | 8 GB | ? |
| | 12,350 | 16 GB | 8 GB | ? |
| | 15,050 | 16 GB | 8 GB | ? |
