Potato Please PC requirements: peeling potatoes asks more than you'd think
Potato Please is out on PC and asks for a GTX 1060 at minimum and an RTX 2070 recommended. Here is which GPUs run it, how the Steam Deck looks and what hotfix 1.0.1 fixes.
In this guide 4
Potato Please launched yesterday, November 3, on PC. It is a first-person game where you get a knife, a bucket and a mountain of potatoes to peel with real physics. That sounds like something any old laptop could handle, but the Steam page says otherwise: the minimum asks for a GTX 1060 and the recommended asks for an RTX 2070. Right now it has 3,817 concurrent players on Steam, and today it already got its first patch, hotfix 1.0.1.
Potato Please PC requirements
These are the official requirements from the Steam page. The game is Windows only: there is no Mac or Linux version.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580 | GeForce RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 5700 XT |
| CPU | Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600 | Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 2 GB | 4 GB |
| OS | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
The install is tiny. The real demand is the GPU, and the recommended tier also doubles the RAM from the minimum.
Which GPUs run it
canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement, with 16 GB of RAM.
- On the edge: the GTX 1060 6GB is the minimum itself. It clears it, but grades D (“Struggles”) against the recommended. The GTX 1660 Super, RTX 3050, RTX 2060 and Arc B580 also clear the minimum and land at C (“Tight”): it runs, with little headroom.
- Meet the recommended: the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600 grade B (“Solid”). The RTX 4070 and RX 9070 XT move up to A (“Smooth”).
- Below the minimum: the GTX 1650.
One card needs a closer look: the Radeon RX 580. It is named in the official minimum, but in our benchmarks it scores below the GTX 1060, so canirun does not count it as clearing the minimum and grades it D (“Struggles”). If you own one, expect a very tight fit.
On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified the game yet. A spec-based estimate puts the Deck below the minimum, at an F. You can see the details on the Potato Please Steam Deck page.
Hotfix 1.0.1 is out
The studio, Golden Horn Studios, shipped a patch today for the most reported launch problems. The parts that matter most on PC:
- Controls: fixes characters walking forward on their own, or WASD not working properly, when a steering wheel, pedals, a flight stick or a virtual joystick driver was connected.
- Getting stuck: the Unstuck, Wheelbarrow and Sack fixes on the Troubleshooting page now have a 60-second cooldown instead of 5 minutes.
- Saves: finished saves can replay the ending, and older saves are backed up automatically before being updated to the new format.
