Machinarium 2 announced for PC and Mac: minimum requirements and who can run it

Amanita Design announced Machinarium 2 yesterday, October 8, the sequel to its 2009 adventure starring the robots Josef and Berta. There is no release date yet, but the Steam page already confirms two things that matter if you play on a computer: it is coming to Windows and macOS, and the minimum requirements are very low. Linux is not listed as a platform for now.

The original team is back: Jakub Dvorský as game director, Adolf Lachman on backgrounds and characters, Václav Blín on animation and Tomáš Dvořák, aka Floex, on the soundtrack. This time you control both Josef and Berta and switch between them freely, everything is hand-drawn and, like before, there is not a single line of text to read.

Machinarium 2 PC requirements

These are the Windows requirements listed on the Steam page. Amanita has not published recommended specs yet:

You can play with a gamepad or a mouse, and the store page says both are fully supported. The studio thinks the gamepad is the best way to play, since you move the two robots directly with no cursor in between.

Which GPUs run it

With a minimum this modest, every popular GPU we checked clears it. That includes the oldest and most basic cards on our list, like the GTX 1650 and the RX 580, and of course newer cards like the Arc B580 or the RTX 4060. Since there is no recommended spec yet, the minimum is the only official reference for now. If your PC is on the low end, you can also browse other games that run on modest hardware.

What about Mac and Steam Deck?

On macOS, the minimum asks for macOS Sierra, a 2 GHz Intel i5 or better, 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of storage. The store page does not list a Mac GPU or a recommended spec. If you play on a Mac, we keep a list of games with a macOS version.

On Steam Deck, Valve has not verified it yet. Based on the published requirements, our spec-based estimate gives it an A, but that is only an estimate, not Valve’s rating. You can follow it on the game’s Steam Deck page.

If you never played the first one, Amanita’s announcement says the original Machinarium is 80% off on Steam until October 15.
