Silica left Early Access on November 3. After more than three years in Early Access, Bohemia Interactive’s real-time strategy and shooter hybrid reached 1.0 on Steam, with the Centauri story campaign, 1v1 matchmaking and Steam Workshop support. If you already own it, the update is free. If you don’t, the price has moved to $24.99 / €24.99. Check one detail before you buy: the recommended spec asks for 32 GB of RAM.

What Silica 1.0 brings

  • Centauri campaign: a story-driven single-player campaign set in the war for Baltarus. It has a cinematic intro, fully voiced mission briefings and dialogue, and a 3D planetary globe between missions. You can save anywhere, even mid-mission, and automatic checkpoints save your progress as you play.
  • Better army command: formations, more precise movement and attack orders, a patrol order, and quick selection of all units of the same type.
  • 1v1 matchmaking: pick your faction, ban the maps you don’t want and you’re in, with no server browsing.
  • Steam Workshop: the sandbox tools have been expanded, and you can now share your scenarios and play everyone else’s.

A few items in the changelog matter directly for your PC. Clicks that missed units at 1440p and 4K are fixed, the resolution setting has been reworked, and there is a new gamepad RTS interface with PlayStation prompts.

Silica PC requirements

These are the requirements from the Steam store page:

MinimumRecommended
GPUGeForce GTX 970 or Radeon RX 570GeForce GTX 1080 or Radeon RX 5700
CPUCore i5-7400 3GHz or AMD equivalentCore i5-10400 or AMD equivalent
RAM16 GB32 GB
Storage48 GB48 GB
OSWindows 10 64-bitWindows 10 / 11 64-bit

Both tiers list DirectX 11, and the recommended tier adds a broadband connection. Memory is the demanding part: even the minimum starts at 16 GB. The store page still carries the note that requirements are subject to change during Early Access.

Which GPUs run it

canirun grades are measured against the recommended requirement:

  • GTX 1650: falls below the minimum.
  • GTX 1060 6GB: clears the minimum but grades D (Struggles) against the recommended. It runs, but expect it to struggle.
  • RTX 3060: clears the recommended and grades B (Solid).
  • RTX 4070: clears the recommended with room to spare and grades A (Smooth).

These grades assume 16 GB of RAM. With 16 GB you meet the minimum memory spec, but not the 32 GB the recommended tier asks for.

On Steam Deck, Valve rates Silica Playable. You can find more on Silica’s Steam Deck page.
