You Are Empty: Absolute Edition launched today, October 27, on Steam for $7.99. It is the revitalized version of the 2006 FPS set in an alternate history 1950s Soviet Kyiv, released for its 20th anniversary with support for every widescreen resolution, adjustable FOV, an optional FPS limiter and loading times improved by around 800%. The best part for PC players: it needs 1 GB of RAM and a GPU with 1 GB of VRAM, so almost any machine can run it.

You Are Empty: Absolute Edition PC requirements

These are the requirements from the Steam store page:

MinimumRecommended
GPUGPU with 1 GB of VRAMNot listed
CPUIntel or AMD with at least 2 coresNot listed
RAM1 GBNot listed
Storage5 GBNot listed
OSWindows 10Not listed

Steam does not list recommended requirements. The studio’s note is clear: the game runs on almost any computer, including laptops with integrated graphics. It is Windows only, with no native Mac or Linux version.

Which GPUs run it

Every popular card we checked clears the minimum with plenty of room and gets an S, “Overkill”. That includes older cards like the GTX 1650 and the Radeon RX 580, as well as the RTX 3050 or the Arc B580. If your rig is modest, this is an easy buy; for more games like it, see our list of games for low-end PCs.

Several Absolute Edition changes target PC performance and stability directly:

  • Even rendering: the studio says Nvidia, AMD and Intel GPUs now render on par with each other.
  • Consistent frametimes and fixed camera jittering.
  • Up to 8x MSAA and 16x Anisotropic Filtering, plus an improved windowed mode.
  • No external prerequisites: it no longer needs separately installed prerequisites or deprecated Windows APIs.
  • Controller support for modern and legacy controllers with 3 presets, thanks to SDL.

It also adds achievements, an optional sprint (off by default to keep the original experience), a toggle that stops Molotovs from bouncing back at you, and Ukrainian localization.

One launch-day heads-up: the studio pushed a hotfix because some game saves were not saving. Make sure you are on the build with the ID 26250221. The team says it is tracking other reported issues and asks anyone reporting a problem to include screenshots, videos, error messages and which antivirus they run.

What about Steam Deck?

Valve has not verified it yet. Based on our spec-based estimate, the Deck clears the minimum and the estimate gives it an A. That is only an estimate from the specs, not a real-world test; you can see the details on its Steam Deck page.
