Outcast Tales, the turn-based roguelite RPG from Hardlane Studio and publisher Inner Pocket, is set to launch today, October 26, on Steam. It is free from day one and, according to the studio, has no paid DLC or microtransactions. For PC players there is more good news: it asks for very little hardware (the minimum is a Core 2 Duo, 3 GB of RAM and an OpenGL 3.2 compatible GPU) and it has a native Linux version.
You lead a crew of flawed heroes through a post-apocalyptic world: you combine classes and personality types to shape their abilities, their relationships grow or fall apart depending on your choices, and you can connect it to Twitch so your chat votes on decisions. The demo is still available and your progress carries over to the full game. For now it covers English and Russian only.
Outcast Tales PC requirements
These are the Windows requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | OpenGL 3.2+ compliant | GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon R9 280X |
| CPU | Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz | Intel Core i5 3.0 GHz |
| RAM | 3 GB | 4 GB |
| Storage | Not specified | 4 GB |
| OS | Windows 10, 8 or 7 SP1 (64-bit) | Windows 10, 8 or 7 SP1 (64-bit) |
The recommended spec also lists DirectX 11. While the page mentions Windows 7 and 8, the Steam client has only supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024, so in practice you need Windows 10 or newer.
On Linux it asks for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS 64-bit, the same CPU and GPU as on Windows, and 4 GB of space. If you game on Linux, our Linux games list has more options.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular GPU we checked clears the recommended spec. The most modest cards on the list, like the GTX 1650, the GTX 1060 6GB and the RX 580, get an A (Smooth) measured against the recommended requirement. From the RTX 3060 up, as well as the RTX 3050 and the Arc B580, the grade is S (Overkill).
Since the minimum only asks for OpenGL 3.2 support, if your GPU is older than these, check your own grade on the game page. And if you are looking for more games for modest machines, see our low-end PC games list.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not verified it yet. Based on our spec-based estimate, the Deck gets a C, which means it sits between the minimum and the recommended. That is an estimate from the numbers, not a test on the device: you can follow it on the Outcast Tales Steam Deck page.
Can your PC run Outcast Tales?
