Phantom Blade Zero is out with path tracing: what NVIDIA says about RTX performance

Phantom Blade Zero is out on Steam and the Epic Games Store with PC-exclusive path tracing and DLSS 4.5. What changes when you turn it on, NVIDIA's numbers for the RTX 50 Series and the new DLSS updates for Metro Redux and The Blood of Dawnwalker.

In this guide 4

  2. NVIDIA’s numbers
  3. What it means for your PC
  4. More DLSS news

Phantom Blade Zero launched on October 28 at 7pm PT on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and NVIDIA used the launch to detail how it runs with path tracing on GeForce RTX cards. On October 22 we told you that the new Game Ready driver added DLSS 4.5 support for the game. Now it is out, and NVIDIA has published its performance numbers along with DLSS news for other games.

What Phantom Blade Zero brings on PC

According to NVIDIA, S-GAME’s game ships with ray tracing, PC-exclusive path tracing and the full DLSS 4.5 suite, including Ray Reconstruction and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. Here is what changes when you turn path tracing on:

  • Global illumination: ReSTIR GI replaces Unreal Engine’s hardware ray-traced Lumen, with more accurate bounced light and finer indirect shadowing.
  • Water caustics: they only appear with path tracing enabled.
  • Ray Reconstruction: it turns on automatically with path tracing on GeForce RTX GPUs.

Dynamic Multi Frame Generation lets you lock in up to 6X, or let the multiplier adjust on the fly to hit a frame rate you pick.

NVIDIA’s numbers

These are NVIDIA’s figures with settings maxed, path tracing on and frame generation enabled, so they depend on that technology:

  • 2560x1440: up to 450 fps on the RTX 5090, 320 on the RTX 5080, 300 on the RTX 5070 Ti and 240 on the RTX 5070. NVIDIA cites an average 7.8X boost with DLSS 4.5.
  • 1920x1080: up to 600 fps at the top, over 430 on the RTX 5080, 410 on the RTX 5070 Ti, 350 on the RTX 5070, 270 on the RTX 5060 Ti and 230 on the RTX 5060, with an average 7.9X boost.
  • Laptops: the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU reaches up to 280 fps at 2560x1440 on the High preset, and RTX 50 Series Laptop GPUs up to 390 fps at 1920x1080.

What it means for your PC

Every figure is for the RTX 50 Series. NVIDIA says Ray Reconstruction is available to all GeForce RTX gamers, but if you own an RTX 3060 or an older card, the announcement gives no numbers, so it will not tell you how path tracing will run for you.

More DLSS news

  • Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux got free updates that improve audio and visuals and add the latest version of DLSS Super Resolution.
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker can be upgraded to DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation through the NVIDIA app.
  • RTX Remix 1.6 comes to the Half-Life 2 RTX demo and Portal with RTX, adding support for DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. NVIDIA also released its beta RTX Remix mod for Minecraft: Java Edition.
  • The Boss Gangster: Criminal Empire is available now with DLSS Super Resolution, and the Killing Floor 3: Halloween Horrors update is out now with DLSS.
