Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor launches today, November 6, on Steam. It is the Dungeons & Dragons RPG Stormfront Studios released in 2001, and SNEG is now putting it out digitally for the first time with a full set of enhancements: it runs smoothly on modern hardware, has sharper visuals, widescreen support including 4K, full controller support, and fixes numerous original game bugs. For PC players the other good news is the hardware bar: the requirements are tiny, so almost any current machine handles it.
Pool of Radiance PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam store page. The studio does not list recommended specs beyond asking for a 64-bit system:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card | Not specified |
| CPU | 1.8 GHz, 64-bit | 64-bit |
| RAM | 4 GB | Not specified |
| Storage | 4 GB | Not specified |
| OS | Windows 10/11 64-bit | 64-bit |
The page also lists DirectX version 11. The game is Windows only: there is no Mac or Linux version.
Which GPUs run it
Every popular GPU we checked clears the minimum by a huge margin, and canirun gives all of them its top grade, S (Overkill). That includes older cards like the GTX 1650, the RX 580 or the GTX 1060 6GB, and of course anything newer, like the Arc B580. With 4 GB of RAM as the minimum, memory will not be an issue on a normal gaming PC either. If your machine is modest, our list of games for low-end PCs may help too.
What is worth a look are the in-game settings: the re-release lets you customize the scope of the enhancements, adjust combat animation speed and switch to an optional “Legacy” mode that preserves the original gameplay and visuals.
If you want to try before you buy, there is a free demo with the first location, and your progress carries over to the full game. The demo’s first patch brought general performance improvements, better controller handling in the inventory and a fix for a font issue that could crash the game.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not rated it yet. On specs, the Deck clears the minimum and our estimate gives it an A, but that is only a spec-based estimate, not a real-world test. Full controller support should help it feel at home. You can follow its status on the game’s Steam Deck page.
