ATMOSFAR PC performance: first hotfix disables DLAA, and which GPUs you need
Apog Labs acknowledges reports of poor performance in ATMOSFAR, and its first hotfix disables DLAA. Here is what the patch changes, what to do if the game runs badly, and which GPUs clear the minimum and recommended specs.
In this guide 6
ATMOSFAR has been in Early Access for one day, and Apog Labs already acknowledges several reports of lackluster performance. On October 29, launch day, the studio released hotfix EA 1.0-4. The patch temporarily disables the DLAA settings because of their inefficient effect on rendering. The studio also asked players to share their specs and graphics settings to help find the cause. On October 29 we told you that the game asks for an RTX 2070 or RX 6700 XT at minimum. Here is what the patch changes and which cards make the cut.
What hotfix EA 1.0-4 changes
It is a small patch, but it touches the part that matters most on PC:
- DLAA disabled for now: the studio switched it off temporarily because of its inefficient effect on rendering. If you were using it, you cannot turn it on for the time being.
- Bug reporting panel: fixes a rare case where it would not close until 30 seconds had passed.
- Respawns on Pearl Island: respawn locations were updated so your character no longer respawns back in the foundry facility.
- Research drives: the notes also list an issue where research drives could be lost upon recovery.
Apog Labs says a series of hotfixes and updates will follow over the coming weeks to stabilize and improve the game. For now there is no official fix for overall performance beyond the DLAA change.
What to do if it runs badly
The studio asks you to post two things in the comments of the patch announcement: your hardware specs and your applied graphics settings. It especially wants your overall preset and whether you use any upscaling. For bugs, the launch announcement points to the in-game bug reporting tool. The studio calls it the only way to guarantee a report reaches the developers.
ATMOSFAR PC requirements
These are the requirements from the Steam store page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 6700 XT | GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 7800 XT |
| CPU | Core i5-7500 or Ryzen 5 1500X | Core i7-14700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 25 GB | 50 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
The minimum lists DirectX 11 and the recommended lists DirectX 12. Both require an internet connection for multiplayer. It is Windows only: there is no Mac or Linux version.
Which GPUs make the cut
The bar is high. With the studio acknowledging performance problems, sitting right at the minimum leaves little headroom:
- Below the minimum: the RTX 2060, RX 6600 XT, Arc B580, RTX 3050 and GTX 1660 Super.
- Clear the minimum but struggle: the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RX 7600 grade D, measured against the recommended spec. The RTX 3070 grades C, which is tight.
- Meet the recommended: the RTX 4070, RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT grade B, and the RTX 5080 reaches A.
If you are on the fence, the 10% launch discount runs until November 12. You have time to see whether the next patches improve performance.
What about Steam Deck?
Valve has not rated it yet. Based on specs, our estimate is F: the Deck falls below the minimum. That is only a spec-based estimate, and you can follow it on ATMOSFAR’s Steam Deck page.
Can your PC run ATMOSFAR?
Here is how your PC grades against ATMOSFAR and ARK: Survival Ascended:
